NORMAL AND COMBINATION SKIN

Guide to have great skin

NORMAL/COMBINATION SKIN TYPE

Normal skin has very few problems. It is not too oily and not too dry. There may be a slightly oilier T-zone affecting the forehead, nose and chin while there may be dry, flaking skin on the cheeks.

SKINCARE PLAN FOR NORMAL/COMBINATION SKIN

There is no one-size-fits solution for this type of skin. It depends on how dry on your dry areas and how oily on your oily areas are. You should look after different parts of your face differently. For the oily areas, you will need to use the lightest weight formulas ingredient. Gel, thin lotion, or liquid texture will work great for oily areas. Then, you will need an emollient booster, serum, or moisturizer over the dry areas. Here is an example skincare plan for normal/ combination skin:

AM ROUTINE:

  • Cleanse
  • Eye cream
  • Antioxidant serum
  • Moisturizer with SPF and/or suncsreen
  • Make-up

PM ROUNTINE:

  • Double cleanse
  • Eye cream
  • Moisturizer (if needed)

This prebioitc formula does all of the above whilst also reducing the appearance of pores and calming inflammation, so it’s great if your skin is breakout-prone as well.

When you have combination skin, finding a serum that won’t sway your complexion to the extremes of oily or dry can be tricky. To play on the safe side, opt for a retinol based one – the ingredient plays well with both dry and oily skin, keeping dry patches at bay while helping to prevent clogged pores. When using a retinoid in the daytime, always follow up your retinol serum with SPF.

A lightweight, no-frills AHA or BHA serum is best for treating combination skin overnight. Lactic acid helps dead and dry skin cells to shed, while hyaluronic acid improves the skin’s ability to retain hydration – resulting in a stronger moisture barrier, fewer dry patches, and reduced oiliness.

OTHER SKIN TYPES

Most people will have skin types that fall into one of the categories: oily, dry, sensitive, normal/ combination. A person's skin type can change over the time and skincare routine will also need to change in response to this.
